OLMC Guides: Co-curricular

Welcome to the Catherine McAuley Library

Public Speaking

A Brief History

Public Speaking has been offered at the College for many years but after 2010 it began to grow to such an extent that by 2022, over a hundred and fifty students were involved annually in competition. Many more performed at school or community functions or acted as volunteers when OLMC hosted public speaking events.

With such an enthusiastic response, it is no surprise that many students tasted success in a wide range of competitions. While many won competitions at the local level, others reached State and National finals, and several went on to achieve what can only be described as outstanding success.

Shadow Judging

This year CBCA judges chose 22 books written by Australian Authors as their top reads in the 2024 Children's Book Council Awards in the Older Reader Category AND in the Early Readers Category. From this, they have chosen 6 books in each category.

Our job as Shadow judges is to read those books and determine which book we think will win in each category.
